CapCut Review 2026: Still Worth It After the Price Hike?

CapCut — 7.7/10

Still the easiest short-video editor around, but a steep Pro price rise and broad content terms mean serious creators should think twice.

Pro price rose sharply in 2026; terms grant broad rights over uploaded content

What changed in 2026

In early 2026 CapCut reshuffled its paid plans. According to Newsweek, the yearly Pro plan rose from about $77 to $179.99, and some features that used to be free moved behind a paywall. On October 29, 2026, the official pricing page listed Free, Pro at $19.99/month, Ultra at $79/month and Teams at $12.49 per seat/month. What you actually pay depends on your country and where you buy (web, App Store, Google Play).

What the free plan still does

The free plan still covers short-form editing: cutting, text, effects, free templates and exports up to 1080p. Templates and effects marked Pro need a subscription. AI tools such as auto captions and background removal are capped, and CapCut changes those caps often, so check the current limits in the app.

Is Pro worth paying for?

Pro makes sense if you post daily, lean on AI tools, or need 4K and the Pro template library. It includes 1 TB of cloud storage and 1,200 AI credits a month. If you only make a few videos a week, the free plan is usually enough. Yearly billing is cheaper than monthly, but try it before committing to a full year.

Terms and privacy

CapCut updated its terms of service in mid-2025. Several tech outlets reported that the new terms give CapCut very broad rights over the content you upload. If you edit client videos or confidential material, read the terms first. In the US, CapCut was pulled from app stores on January 19, 2025 and came back about a day later. According to reports, the TikTok US joint venture closed in January 2026 and covers CapCut; the app remains available in the US and Europe.

Verdict

CapCut is still the fastest way to make Shorts, Reels and TikToks. It loses points on Value and Peace of mind because of the price rise and the content terms. Beginners and short-form creators should start with the free plan. If you edit for clients or need clear content rights, look at DaVinci Resolve or Descript.
