Can You Monetize AI Videos on YouTube? The 2026 Rules

YouTube doesn’t ban monetizing AI-made videos, but its “inauthentic content” policy excludes repetitive mass-made videos, shock content and AI personas of real people discussing money or health. Here’s how to keep your channel safe.

Short answer: yes, if the videos carry your own creative value. YouTube doesn’t ban AI; it targets mass-produced videos with little variation. Here’s what the policy says, based on the July 2025 and July 2026 updates. We aren’t YouTube: read the official policy in YouTube Studio before you decide.

1. YouTube doesn’t ban AI

On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content”. It applies to every video, AI or not: what’s excluded is templated content, not the tool.

2. 3 types that can’t be monetized

Per the July 16, 2026 clarification: repetitive, generic or template-based videos that are easy to mass-produce with AI; distressing content made to shock for views; AI personas of real people discussing finance, legal or health topics. Channels with “too much” of these can’t monetize.

3. Add yourself

Your own script, commentary, point of view, story and editing that changes from video to video. AI is the tool; the idea and the storytelling must be yours.

4. Disclose AI content

YouTube requires you to disclose when you use AI to make or meaningfully alter realistic-looking content, using the option at upload. According to AIR Media-Tech, since May 2026 YouTube also adds the label itself when its systems detect it.

5. Check your rights

Use plans that include commercial rights (ElevenLabs Starter, Luma Plus and so on), licensed music or YouTube’s Audio Library, and never use someone else’s voice or face without consent.

Warning signs for a channel

Many uploads a day with the same template, voice and music
Only stitched AI shots or stock clips, with no commentary or story
AI avatars of real celebrities or experts
Sensational titles and thumbnails that don’t match the video
